Unexpected and Welcomed

Even when I married my blue-eyed, blonde-haired husband 12 and 1/2 years ago, I never thought I would have a fair headed child with his eyes.

I always thought my brunette hair and dark brown eyes would push past any Norwegian genes the Markleys could throw at me.

My first was auburn and her eyes didn’t turn until she was six months old. She kept her inky infant blue eyes until she could crawl. Then they turned brown, almost identically colored to mine.

My second was born with some crazy dark hair which promptly began to grow in blonde. For a few months, her roots were fair and her tips were dark. Her eyes exploded blue by the time she was a week old and I knew she would be her father’s daughter.

And even though she chose to cut her own hair this past December, she’s still my unexpected, never-could-have-guessed miracle.

I never did produce a dark haired little girl, but I’ll proudly and lovingly wind auburn and blonde hair into french braids and barrettes for as long as they’ll let me. Unexpected, but certainly welcomed.

What’s unexpected, but welcomed in your life lately?

i definitely have some friendships that were unexpected but totally and completely welcomed. i can’t imagine my life without them, yet they were so surprising initially.

Sarah, I actually prayed that my third child would have blonde hair and blue eyes. Totally opposite from my first two babies. My husband asked me where I thought I was going to get that when I told him my desire. I promptly told him I asked the Lord for it. I was five months pregnant at the time.

When that big 10lb 7oz boy was born, the nurses were asking “Where did that blonde hair come from?”. I was awake enough to tell them I had prayed for it. Then I just knew his eyes would be blue.

I should have asked for his hair to stay blonde; he’s dirty blonde/light brown now. But oh those pretty blue eyes. Brown, hazel and blue…quite the variety around here.

God has been surprising me lately with reminders (in the middle of conversations) to see people the way He does.

By the way, my hubs is a first generation American. His dad is from Norway and mom from Sweden. Love those Norwegians!

in a 30-minute span on monday night, our little “sparkly markely” injected fresh life into my veins as we sang, danced, made imaginary pancakes and read books together up in her room!

    what a joy she is!

    Love the pic of Naomi.

I’d say my unexpected blessing is what I blogged about today. I blowup with my son that went North instead of South.

Unexpected but welcome, hmmm…Well (so many things really but) to keep it simple- I’m still shocked I had a girl at all! After two boys, not really sure about ever having a 3rd child, convinced I was just meant to birth boys exclusively *boom* I discovered I was pregnant with my daughter. She’s my most unexpected and cherished surprise evah!

I love your blog by the way. I’ve been reading for a year now and have rarely commented. Thought I’d finally say hello ;)
