Writing Haikus

feverish writing,
sure i won’t get it all done.
deadline comes: thursday.

inspriation flows
if time would cooperate
and kids sleep early

attempting poems
for the first time in eight years
(should be writing)

haikus bring release
from laundry and dishwashers
and girls who need baths.

writing these haikus:
fifteen minutes I wasted
not writing my book.

ten thousand words now
(I can’t believe it either)
spanning two projects.

conference is friday
i’m taking annie with me
(she’s the real writer)

Write a haiku in the comments about your life today (5, 7, 5).

Ha! This is good, I enjoyed it (though I will not attempt it). You should submit it to:

http://seedlingsinstone.blogspot.com/2009/03/poetry-of-comedy.html who currently has a writing challenge for the word ‘poetry’ and yours would be perfect:)

  2. Southern Gal says:

    beautiful weather
calls for much play in the sun
    with my baby boy

    then onto the soccer field
    for a high school game
    to watch my first boy

    have conference fun
    with one of my favorite
    writers: dear Annie

That was fun! Thanks. (Although I took much liberty and strayed away from the nature theme that is supposed to be haiku.) Haven’t done that since middle school!

    i need more coffee
    but already too hyped up
    maybe a decaf

    Reviewing job apps.
    Going blind; need diversion.
    Ah, Twitter. Thank you.

I love haiku. I wrote about 10 per day when I was at high-school. Occasionally, one was good. Other people even thought so. Occasionally.

  6. Cee says:

    lovely autumn sun
    bringing warmth on happy girls
    playing, loving life

    watching gratefully
thankful for the gift of life
    God has given me

    mothering two girls
    bright, insightful, sweetheart gals
    filling me with love

Thanks for your inspiration Sarah. I certainly didn’t expect that to come today when I went reading while my baby sleeps.

    Hope you enjoy!
