Books, Hands and Words

collage2-1This weekend I learned that my kids don’t need a bath every night and that the best place to read a book is cozied up high near the rafters in a bunk bed.

I learned that sunglasses look better on three-year-olds than they do on 35-year-olds and that the bench near a post office is more fun to climb on than a jungle gym.

I remembered the sounds I like the best: listening to my husband write music, my kids chatter as they forge life long friendships over tricycles and puzzles, and sharing laughter over coffee.  The best way to pass a Saturday morning is at the breakfast table of an old friend.

collage1This weekend I learned that songs heal hearts and little hands can make a good song better.

This weekend I found they best way to see my future is too look at my past and that the older I get, the more I sound like my mother.  I learned that people are the same everywhere I go, but the ones that I’ve known the longest have a box seat in my soul.

I learned that my words spoken in His name will go far.  I hope.  I pray.

  1. Love that phrase, “a box seat in my soul”.

This weekend, I learned that the fruit of the Spirit gives you victory over everything Satan tries to throw at you!

I love visiting your blog…reading your appreciations always makes me think and stop.
The way I remember my weekend is when I speak to family abroad….and tell them of all the wonderful things that go on in our lives over here.
Thank YOU…you open my eyes and ears…

So glad you had some time with the Leonards. Looks like it was a nice, fun time. I pray that what you shared this weekend touched the hearts of the college students. Wish we could have been there. Did they record your message?

    • Sarah Markley says:

they did record it. i’m going to work with my husband to see if there is a way to upload it to my site and share it with everyone. hopefully.

.This weekend, while watching my son’s Boy Scout troop do their annual Space Derby, I learned that parents care far more then children do about winning and losing. Although the boys all wanted to win they were just as excited if not more to see their friends win. To me this was priceless and I loved seeing how much our little boys are starting to act like our little men.

Thank you for your words of wisdom, all your post touch my heart but this one especially reminded me of the small things not to forget.

    • Chad Markley says:

Stephanie, all I can say is….I want to have an “Annual Space Derby”! The rest of your comment was great but that was where I got stuck.

      EVERYONE NEEDS A SPACE DERBY!!!

      :-)

      • Stephanie says:

It was a blast!! Cannot wait for the box car derby in a few months. Loving watch my son grow through Boy Scouts and plus I get to do lots of fun kid things that I would look silly doiong other wise :)

we dont have a troop in my area – my little boys need boys scouts. Of course they keep hinting that i should be troop leader. So everyone pray i win the lottery so i can quit my job and become a SAHM and boy scout troop leader!

  8. Are they supposed to have a bath every night? I’m in big trouble if they are. :) What a special weekend, and thank you as well to Lisa for capturing it so beautifully with the photos.

I’ve been realizing recently that the friends I’ve known the longest are the ones I keep going back to – time plays such a key role in friendships.
    Sounds like a fantastic weekend!

Seriously, Sarah, when you write I feel like I’m savoring words like rich candy. You have such a gift.

this weekend was my husbands first weekend off since we got married. He has always had other days off – never sat and sun. Sometimes he was home on weekends but it has always been a holiday or vacation. Having him home felt like a holiday. It was great.
He started a new job two weeks ago. He is closer to my work, so we spend lunch together. We get more time in the morning together because his commute is shorter.

As our marriage heals – it appears this new job is a tool god is using to help it. We have more time together. My husband is hapier in his job.

For the first time in 13 years I am packing him a lunch for work and I love it. Some much joy and contentment is found laying out the salami just right. And I will share you a secret…I right out “I love you” with the mustard each morning before I spread it. SILLY i know but it makes me so happy.
