Fearless

On Monday I took the scariest flight of my life. By leaps and bounds.

But I made it. My daughters, on the other hand, thought it felt like a roller coaster.

“This is JUST LIKE THE TOWER OF TERROR, Mommy!” That was the sentiment from my five-year-old.

Here’s my story. And theirs.

Mine is full of fear and theirs is full of joy.

Have you found joy and fear in the same place?

  1. Oh my gosh! We just rode the Tower of Terror last summer, and what memories that brings back! I was on with my 14 year old son, and kept grabbing his leg each time we dropped. I was so scared! He, on the other hand, kept pushing my hand away. (Teenagers.) My kids all rode that ride 3 times! Once was enough for me.

But what a great lesson here. I’ve spent a good portion of my life afraid (mostly of things that will most likely never happen) and this is such a perfect example of how I can choose to face life – fearful, screaming, and in panic, like the woman behind you; or joyful and thrilled with the ride I’ve been given. Thanks for sharing this! (And, if you ever get on a plane again, I hope it’s a perfect flight.)

  2. Sarah, I have jumped out of a perfectly good airplane on purpose, but I think that would have scared me. I’ve been on some scary flights, but not like that.

I do agree the perspective we have on life – fear or joy – is ours to choose, but I hope not to have many experiences like what you had. My husband is already afraid of flying because of two “incidents” he had in the military. I don’t think that after a flight like the one you were on that I’d be able to ever get him to fly again. Sometimes I see the roller coaster while he sees the crash. (and probably vice versa in other situations)

  3. Great application of what must have been a really scary experience! It also illustrates why we have to be childlike to enter the Kingdom of God–they just trust that if you took them there, everything is okay! If we grown-ups could have faith like your children, we might enjoy the ride more often!!
